“When sourcing fruit, fine balance and yield are of the utmost importance, followed by aspect and soil.” Cliff Royle, Chief Winemaker

Stretching 100-kilometres along the Western Australian coast from Cape Naturaliste to Cape Leeuwin, the Margaret River region is renowned for its rich, gravelly loams that are ideal for producing premium, high quality fruit.

It's temperate climate and coastal location create the finest red wine grapes in Australia. Certain sub-regions within Margaret River are more consistent for particular grape varieties than others.  Our fruit is sourced from the Wilyabrup, Karridale and Walcliffe sub-regions, where viticulture is of the highest level and yields are low.

The finest, tight-grain French oak barrels are used for wine maturation and, given the favourable climatic conditions of Margaret River, 'night cooling' has been implemented to control barrel temperatures. When external temperatures reach 18°C or less, any warmer internal air is extracted, allowing the cool night air to flow into the building. This method minimises refrigeration requirements and our environmental impact.

Our winemaking philosophy harnesses rich Margaret River fruit characters that are harmoniously balanced and combined with an elegant structure. Blending from sub-regions allows us to produce wines with greater refinement and a complex layering of different fruit flavours to achieve a more balanced and consistent style of wine.
